Tessellation Foundations

An introduction to grids and the patterns folded from them

Tessellations may look like they're made by magical fairies waving a magical tessellation wand, but they're actually made by real people taking simple steps one at a time. I've designed hundreds of tessellations and I'm here to help you on your way to tessellation mastery.

My free video series on tessellation basics focuses on gridding techniques and tessellations folded with only grid lines. Twists and larger structures are introduced in the last few projects and you can access all the videos, downloads, and interactive patterns for FREE by signing up here - and get started folding tessellations right away!

What gridding techniques will you learn?

You'll learn my best practices for precision, square grids, how to determine what divisions are needed for a target number of grid divisions, how to cut out hexagons, when to use diagonals in a square grid, how to divide any grid in thirds, how to divide any grid in fifths, how to figure out any other odd division, and how to fold diagonal grids on squares and hexagons.

What projects will you learn?

Square Pleat Overlaps, Goran's Wave, Right Triangle Intersections, 3-Way Intersection Stripes, Daisy Chain Variation, Fujimoto's Clover, Square Pleat Intersections, and Closed Triangles Tight are the projects included in Tessellation Foundations.
